Dipa Karmakar, a rather new name in the field of gymnastics but having a much firm stay. Dipa Karmakar,an international level gymnast was born on August 9 ,1993. She is from Agartala,Tripura and represents India in international circuit for gymnastics. She gained sudden recognition when she won the Bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth games held in Glasgow. She also won a bronze medal at the Asian Championship. Dipa Karmakar finished fifth at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastic Championship. She is one of the very few gymnasts who has landed the Produnova vault. This vault consists of a front handspring and two somersaults. She scores the highest in Produnova vault. The achievements she holds has brought great pride to India. She is the most successful women gymnast from India that the world has known.

She has been groomed under the able guidance of her international gymnast turned coach Biseswar Nandi. Despite suffering from a postural deforming known as the flat foot, where the arches of the legs fall flat, Dipa has come a long way to overcome her in capabilities and failure. She has now become the first Indian gymnast to qualify for the Olympics after a wait of 52 years. A moment of pride and honour for the country and her family and coach is a true example of remarkable physical and mental strength that Dipa Karmakar has.
She is extremely happy to have had an entry into the 2016 Rio Olympics but has very less of time to celebrate as right now she is primarily focusing on practicing and training for upcoming events at the games.
Also known as the Golden girl of Tripura, Dipa Karmakar received the prestigious Arjuna Award from President Pranab Mukherjee on National Sports day in 2015.
Adding more feathers to her cap every year, Dipa’s achievements have a greater significance for Gymnastic Federation of India giving its due recognition, which earlier affected the federation’s funding for the practice and facilities required for the athletes.
We Congratulate Dipa Karmakar for her achievement and wish her all the best to qualify the Rio Olympics.
